Information for LPG users

Domestic Bulk Liquefied Petroleum Gas Orders

In July 2004 the Office of Fair Trading asked the Competition Commission to report on the supply of domestic bulk LPG.  Further information can be found HERE.

In June 2006 a report "Market investigation into supply of bulk Liquefied Petroleum Gas for domestic use" was duly published.  As a result of this report, the Competition Commission has issued the "Domestic Bulk Liquefied Petroleum Gas Market Investigation Order 2008" which comes into force on 13th April 2009.

What this means for those in the community who buy bulk LPG is that it should now be easier to shop around for a competitive price for our gas and to switch supplier if you choose.  The issue of the gas tank itself, which had previously made it difficult to change supplier, has been dealt with in this order, as has the length of time that people are 'locked into' contracts with their suppliers.

Full details of this order are available on the internet and a good place to start is the FAQ pages.

(with thanks to Mo Ross for pointing this out)
