Briefings from your Local Policing Team

September 3rd 2009

There have been several incidents to report since our last bulletin.

Overnight on 25th/26th August, a property undergoing renovation in Hoarwithy was broken into, but the only item stolen was a plastic fuel can with fuel.

Overnight on 28th/29th August, an industrial unit at Haywood was broken into and 7 motorbikes were stolen.  CCTV images were examined and as a result a male has been arrested in connection with this.  Enquiries are continuing at this time.

On Sunday afternoon 30th August, residents of Garway Hill were disturbed by a group of six males who arrived in the area in two vehicles - a black saloon, and a white Mazda MX5 H58*PTW.  They were described as two males in their 40's, and four males between 16 - 20, all rough looking, with various tattoos, and were using abusive language.  They spent some time in the area on foot and were seen to enter several gardens of unoccupied properties.  They were not seen to take anything, but their behaviour aroused suspicions of several of the residents of the area.

Overnight on 31st Aug/1st Sept, a snack van was broken into at Much Birch, considerable damage was caused to the van, but only 16 cans of drink were taken.

Also overnight on 31st Aug/1st Sept in Much Birch, a property that was being renovated and unoccupied was broken into, a quantity of lead and a washing machine and a kettle were stolen.

Overnight last night a number of self-storage units were broken into on a farm in Clehonger.  The owners of the units are yet to confirm if property was stolen, but a Banks Farm 4 wheel trailer was stolen from outside the units.  It is described as 8ft x 4ft builders trailer with galvanised sides and a blue frame.

Herefordshire Crime Prevention Panel is looking for new members - can you help?  The Panel is an independent body which was formed 21 years ago with over 20 members from many sectors of the community.

It aims to encourage greater public participation in the prevention and solution of crime and the panel works closely with the police to this end.  The panel have provided funding over the years for literature on bogus callers, personal safety and security of belongings in motor vehicles, as well as crime prevention devices such as shed bars and panic alarms.

They played a large part for many years in 'Crucial Crew' which is an annual event run for all primary school pupils in the county, teaching youngsters many aspects of personal safety.

More recently, the panel have worked with us and Smartwater, and those of you who have purchased this product will recall writing your cheques to the panel!

Now, sadly, there are only six members left on the panel, and in order for it to continue its valuable work, they are looking for 'fresh blood', which is why I am including this item in our bulletin in the hope that some of you out there can spare a few hours for this worthy cause.

If you'd like to know more, please get in touch.
