Crime Trends

A shipping container being used as a storage unit on a construction site in Little Dewchurch was broken into overnight 13th/14th September, and some valuable plant was stolen. The door was forced open and a whacker plate and a hydraulic power plate were among items stolen.

A large copper water cylinder was stolen from a shed in the garden of a property in Grafton Lane during the night of 12/13th September.

Clehonger primary school has been the subject of more vandalism over the past few weeks, can anyone assist with information?

A white Vauxhall Combo car-derived van was stolen from a farm yard in Cobhall Common on 17th September, but found a short distance away later that evening.

Sometime between 9th and 19th September a Chinese cast iron bath tub was stolen from a farm yard in Abbeydore. The bath (I'm not sure how it differs from an English one!) was under a woodpile, so someone must have had a good poke around - hence the importance of reporting all these 'white vans' to us when you are visited by one!

Sometime between a delivery of 500 litres of oil on the 9th September, and the discovery of an empty tank on 21st, oil has been stolen from a domestic tank in Longtown.

An attempt was made to steal heating oil from a domestic tank in Wormelow - the cap was taken but little oil as the tank was almost empty. Please keep an eye on the oil level in your tanks, often a theft of oil isn't discovered until some time after the event when the oil supply runs out unexpectedly early!

Several small diamond shaped window panes have been damaged recently at the church at Kingstone.

Overnight on 21st/22nd September, a premises in Watery Lane, Lower Bullingham was broken into, and several vehicle parts were stolen from scrapped vehicles, including headlights, wheels and tyres.

Overnight on 22nd/23rd September, there were several thefts in the Golden Valley area which are possibly linked.

A red Honda 420 quad bike with a 'bakery' basket on the front was taken from a locked shed on a farm at Michaelchurch Escley. Some documents and a first aid kit that had been with the bike were found by Gwent police yesterday afternoon on a bridleway in the Chepstow area, but no trace of the bike unfortunately.

A quad bike that had been stolen from a farm just over the border was found dumped in the Clodock area yesterday morning, it is being examined by forensics, as are the items found near Chepstow.

Power tools were stolen from a shed on a farm in Turnastone, including a Stihl chainsaw.

An attempt was made to enter a shed in Ewyas Harold, but the offenders may have been disturbed.

A quad bike was also stolen from a farm in Vowchurch, and a vehicle that had previously been stolen from a farm near Abergavenny was left at the top of the drive.

Police in Gwent are working with colleagues in West Mercia as they suffered several similar thefts at the same time.

Rural Crime is a problem that affects many living on our patch, you can help prevent it by making sure all your items are locked away out of sight, and marking them with a property marking solution such as SmartWater. All property can be marked in this way - household electricals, IT equipment, jewellery, antiques, and outdoor equipment such as power tools, horse tack, trailers, quad bikes and so on.

We can supply SmartWater at £25 a kit, which is a small price to pay for peace of mind. It also means that should you have items stolen, they can be easily traced back to you if they are recovered.

Suspicious vehicles

A white Ford Transit van X77*TEV with two male occupants was seen a couple of times in the Kingstone and Clehonger areas around lunchtime on Tuesday 13th September. The males were seen walking around the rear of empty properties at one point.

A white Ford Transit van that was circulated in the last bulletin - X90*ROC - was spotted by one of our readers in the yard of a commercial premises at Tram Inn where it had no business to be. This van has an orange light on the roof of the cab.

And another white Ford transit van HJ*7TUO has been mooching around the Rotherwas Industrial Estate - it was spotted in Twyford Road last Wednesday (21st) around lunchtime. There were three males in the vehicle aged between 18 - 25 years, and the one that was spoken to had an Irish accent.

That's it for now - keep the calls coming in!
