Briefings from your Local Policing TeamMarch 8th, 2011Good Evening Crime Trends On 25th February, another property in Haywood Lane, Belmont had a shed broken into, but the incident was only discovered on 5th March nothing was taken because the owner had put an audible alarm inside the shed which activated as soon as the door was opened, and presumably scared the would-be thieves off. A window was broken at the rear of an isolated cottage in Allensmore at about 11.45pm on 2nd March. It has not been established what has caused the damage, the occupiers heard a dull thud at the time. Between 28th February and 1st March, 20 sheep were stolen from a field at Pontrilas, all were ewes carrying lambs. Between 9am and 5pm on 3rd March, a child's pink bike was stolen from the front garden of a property in Holme Lacy. A Mamas and Papas red and white buggy was also taken from the same property a couple of weeks earlier. On 4th March it was reported that a shed had been broken into at St Owens Cross, and 2 strimmers, a chainsaw and a brushcutter were stolen. Overnight on 6th/7th March, a large number of catalytic converters were stolen from an industrial premises in Fordshill Road, Rotherwas. Suspicious Vehicles A white Ford Transit panel van DW04DW* was seen in suspicious circumstances in Wellbrookside, Peterchurch, at around 10pm on Wednesday 2nd March. This is the same vehicle that was circulated in the last briefing and had been seen during the day in the same location. A hotel in Grafton had two males calling for scrap in a white Citroen Berlingo KG5*PXL today. The males were described as white, between 20-30years of age, one had short dark hair and one had blonde/ginger hair. They became quite aggressive when challenged. On 5th March at 10.15am, a white Fiat people carrier with blacked out rear windows W45*MHT with Male driver (mid 20's, slight build and dark hair poss with moustache), with a female passenger and young child arrived in the yard of a farm in Blakemere looking to buy scrap. The white Ford Transit van S99*KTH that we have been asking you to keep an eye out for has been out and about on our areas in the last few days. It was spotted in Kilpeck yesterday at about 11.30am, and today it was seen in the Shenmore area near Madley. There is usually a male driver and a female passenger. The male is described as late 30's with a rough unshaven look, and a round face. Suspicious Incidents The theft of 2 horses from a field behind Newton farm, St Owens Cross, was prevented recently by a vigilant owner. Interestingly the owner noticed that these two horses had two plaits in their mane which she could not account for. At this stage no explanation for the plaits has been established. We'd like to give reassurance to the community and encourage them to report these incidents immediately. By reporting these incidents to the Police we can plot the incidents and pick up any trends or patterns. We would like to stress the importance of having a photograph taken of the plait as well, with photographs we have the evidence required to collate the different appearance of the plaits and identify any similarities. Our advice to anybody who discovers a plait is to - .Check your horse's/pony's mane and tail for any signs of a plait
We'd like to ask all horse owners to remain vigilant, be suspicious and report all matters causing concern to the Police and Horse Watch (Herefordshire Horsewatch Co-ordinator Tara Heinemann on 01544 318038). If you sight a vehicle acting suspiciously around your yard or horses please take a note of the registration number, vehicle make and model and also a description of driver/ passenger if possible. Finally, a sheep was killed and its butchered remains were found in a black plastic bag near the road in Dorstone on 4th March. The carcass had been professionally butchered and the meat left inside the bag, whilst the other remains had been thrown over the hedge, and the fleece and head were missing altogether. If anyone can shed any light on this strange incident, please get in touch. Thank you for your time Hereford Rural South Local Policing Team
