Briefings from your Local Policing Team

March 28th, 2011

Good Evening

Crime Trends

This evening, two residents from the same street in Peterchurch reported thefts that have occurred from their rear gardens in the past two weeks, one resident has lost a set of old wooden ladders, while another has lost the heavy plastic lid to a sandpit, and an ash bin.

Between Monday 21st and Friday 25th March, an attempt was made to break into a container which was stored behind a business premises at the Thorn Business Park at Rotherwas. This may have been done at the same time as the break in reported on the last briefing, where an amount of copper tubing and electric cabling was stolen from another premises in the Thorne Business Park.

Also in Rotherwas, in Netherwood Road on Friday 25th March, a security camera was activated at about 7.30pm at a factory premises. Offenders smashed a PIR and moved a security camera, then attempted to force their way into the premises, then realised there was a second security camera, and made off. A vehicle, possibly a Mondeo, was used.

In the past three weeks, an Arrowhead breaker, used for breaking tarmac and concrete, was stolen from a trailer in a locked compound in Pontrilas.

About 1500 litres of heating oil was stolen from a premises in Michaelchurch, St Owens Cross, sometime over the past 8 weeks - the occupiers have been away and only just realised their tank had been emptied.

With regard to heating oil thefts, it transpires that there was no theft of oil from Little Dewchurch Village Hall, as reported last week, the monitor had broken and was giving an empty reading!

Suspicious incidents/vehicles

This afternoon at around 2pm, a male was challenged by a gardener arriving for work in Tump lane, Wormelow. The male, described as in his 50's, quite stocky with dark swept back hair, was offering to cut down some trees in an elderly gents garden. He soon left when the gardener arrived, he was in a white openback lorry, but unfortunately, no registration number was taken.

Please keep an eye out for such callers, who will prey on the elderly and vulnerable, and please get in touch if you are aware of any similar incidents.

The vehicle I circulated last week as being involved in offering tarmac services in Pontrilas (a white Ford Transit Tipper SE5*UVN) was spotted by a reader of this bulletin in Ewyas Harold, and was doing work in the locality. Enquiries are in hand to check the work out, but please let us know if you see him around.

Thanks for your time
