Briefings from your Local Policing Team

June 1st, 2011

Good Evening

Here is a roundup of goings on over the past week since Kevin's briefing

Crime Trends

A garage attached to a property in Vowchurch was broken into between 17th and 25th May and a ride on mower, 2 electric drills and a can of petrol were stolen.

A number of catalytic converters were stolen from commercial vehicles in a yard at Dinedor overnight last Thursday 26th / Friday 27th.

120 scaffolding poles 2m in length were stolen from an industrial unit in Kingstone between 20th and 27th May.

A Marin Bobcat pedal cycle was stolen from a school in Much Dewchurch between 26th and 29th May.

Between 7pm last night and 8am today, a factory unit in Fir Tree Lane, Rotherwas was broken into, and a large amount of tools were stolen. The main door to the premises had been forced.

An Elddis Storm Crusader caravan was reported stolen from a farm in Green Crize, near Dinedor, today. The caravan had been chained and had wheel clamps fitted, and the gate to the yard had been padlocked, but the chain on the gate had been cut. This happened sometime between 9am on Sunday and 8am yesterday.

Suspicious vehicles

Over the past week we have had numerous calls regarding the occupants of vans, some with Irish plates, going door to door offering generators and power tools.

As mentioned in a previous briefing we strongly advise you not to purchase any of these items - Trading Standards state that most of these tools are cheap imports from China, they are often counterfeit or will be unbranded, and will not have been safety tested.

As far as the law goes, anything offered for sale for over £35 must be accompanied by a written contract giving the purchaser 7 days in which to change his/her mind, and ask for their money back. These characters are not in the habit of giving money back guarantees, and if anyone has bought one of these power tools, Trading Standards would be very interested to have a look at it, so please get in touch via the council switchboard on 01432 260000.

A red Mitsubishi pick up V335*OT has been seen in suspicious circumstances on two occasions in the past few weeks, in Holme Lacy on one occasion and Little Dewchurch on the other. Please let us know if you see it around.

A male in a green Range Rover CK02*ZP was challenged when found in a farmyard in Holme Lacy on Monday (30th) evening. The male, described as in his late 30's to early 40's, 5'8", thick set build, wearing a baseball cap and working clothes. He had a bit of a Welsh accent and was asking to buy some wood, he had a wad of cash in his pocket. He became quite pushy when asked to leave, there was a female in the vehicle with him, described as early 30's, blonde and quite attractive.

A white Ford Transit LWB panel van was seen acting suspiciously in Kingstone yesterday at around 6.15pm. The registration number was S901TDB - keep a look out for this vehicle.

Scams

This was recently posted on Ringmaster -
Please be on the look out for a gentleman who is going around the county selling CCTV cameras, he is described as approximately 45 years of age, 5ft 9ins, medium build and wearing a blue fleece with the Chrysler logo on. His tactics seem to be to show a working camera, but to go on to sell a different camera that does not work. If you see this gentleman or have dealings please ring us on 0300 333 3000, reference incident 0091N 250511

Results

Two males were arrested just after 10pm on the Rotherwas Industrial Estate after having been spotted by a security guard attempting to break into a yard, he called police with part of the registration of the van they made off in, and a short while later it was seen and stopped by police and the occupants were detained. Enquiries are ongoing.

That's it for now - keep the calls coming in !
