Briefings from your Local Policing Team

21st February 2009

There are quite a few incidents to report from the last week unfortunately!

St Peters Church at Wormbridge was broken into sometime around 13th February, entry was gained by forcing the lead lights on one of the windows, causing damage, but it would appear that nothing has been taken, although the suspects did get into the building.

Overnight 13th/14th February, damage was caused to a vehicle parked on the forecourt of the garage at Wormelow.  A lump of concrete was thrown through the windscreen.

On 15th February, a householder in Hoarwithy reported that two evenings previously, a flowerpot in his front garden had been smashed, and then, that morning in daylight, the same thing had happened again with another flowerpot.  The vandal had gone to a certain amount of effort as the pots had been secured by screws to the paving stones!  He is not aware of anyone locally having a grudge, has anyone else been subject to this sort of random vandalism?

A suspicious male was seen in Allensmore last Wednesday morning (18th).  A householder saw the male get out of a teal coloured vehicle, possibly a Honda, put on a florescent jacket with 'electricity' written on the rear and began walking around the complex of barn conversions where she lives.  She challenged him and he stated he was from E-On and needed to check the cabling and meters.  He appeared legitimate, but later the lady did check with E-On who stated they did not have anyone in the area.  He would also be in a marked vehicle, and would have the company logo on his jacket.  Have any of you had a similar visitor?

A farm at Didley, Wormbridge, had an attempted break-in to one of their workshops overnight 18th/19th February, but as the building is on the A465, maybe the would-be thieves were disturbed by a passing vehicle.

On Friday 19th a farmer in Thruxton reported one of his cows missing, and it appears to have been stolen.  It is a female Limousin cross about 22 months old, and was in a barn along with 49 others.  The doors have not been found open, and no-one locally has reported a lone cow wandering, so theft is a possibility.  However, the passport is still with the farmer so the cow cannot be re-sold.

Finally, overnight 19th/20th February, a metal hay rack and 4 metal food troughs were stolen from a field near Little Dewchurch, so the metal thieves are still out there - beware!

We are still receiving reports of ATM's (Bank cash machines) being tampered with so continue being vigilant when using them.

Thanks for taking the time to plough through this!
