Briefings from your Local Policing Team

August 25th, 2011

Crime Trends

An Ifor Williams flatbed trailer and a quantity of diesel were stolen from a farm in Much Birch overnight on Monday 15th/Tuesday 16th August. The trailer had the registration number NCJ50 at the time of the theft. About 100 litres of red diesel was stolen from several plant vehicles on the site, where a barn conversion is being carried out.

A metal roofing ladder was stolen from a property being built in a small development in Clehonger overnight on 17th/18th August, this is the second time the development has been broken into.

Last Thursday afternoon (18th August) several drain covers were stolen from rural roads in Kilpeck and Bagwyllydiart, a witness saw a vehicle with orange lights on the roof and black mesh sides around 4.30pm at the location of one of the thefts.  It's very easy to put yellow lights on a van, and even to attach a 'Highway Maintenance' sign to any van or truck, and no-one bats an eyelid to persons in yellow jackets appearing to be working on the road!  Please be suspicious if you see such vehicles in rural areas, and take registration numbers if they don't obviously belong to the Council, or Amey.

Between 12 noon on Friday 19th August and 12.30pm the following day, a quantity of metal sheep handling equipment was stolen from a field in Twyford. The equipment consisted of a sheep bath, 9 hurdles and a gate.

Around 4am on Friday 19th August a motorbike was stolen from a locked barn in Llanveynoe near Longtown. The bike, a Honda CRF 450X, registration number VU06NPE had been locked to another bike with a cable, the cable was cut through.

A quantity of 30mm aluminium wire was stolen from a farm in Allensmore between 6pm on Monday 22nd August and 9am the next day. The wire was on a drum which had been rolled across a field, the wire was then taken and the drum left behind.

Suspicious vehicles

The white Ford Transit EN07VF* that I circulated in the briefing on 9th August has been popping up all over the place, thanks to everyone who has contacted us about it, please continue to do so. The users of this vehicle have been spoken to by police recently about their intimidating behaviour when challenged, and they are now aware we are on their case, but will still be getting up to no good given the chance!

A white Ford Transit tipper L2*DOL has been seen in the Orcop area on a couple of occasions last week, this vehicle is 'known' to us, please report any sightings of this one too. The occupants of the van last Thursday were described as two white males with dark complexions, with a young boy. the caller thought they may be from the travelling community.

Keep an eye out for another white Ford Transit AV05ZK* that has been seen several times in the Golden Valley area recently - the occupants were asking for scrap.

A green Ford transit (makes a change from white!) was spotted in a commercial premises in Pontrilas last Thursday 18th August, there were two male occupants asking for scrap - the number was N85*OHB.

That's all for now
